“I’ve always believed in showing up for people, listening, and doing the work to build something better together. That’s the kind of leadership I’m here to bring.”

Meet Jim

Jim Mercado is a Beaumont resident and community leader whose life has been shaped by a deep commitment to caring for others, listening, and bringing people together.

Before coming to Beaumont, Jim spent nearly four decades in Los Angeles, where his work and community involvement reflected that commitment in many forms—from music and performance to ministry and leadership. He was a founding member of the Gay and Lesbian Outreach Ministry at St. Monica Catholic Church in Santa Monica, where he helped create a space of belonging and support, and was recognized with the Lumen Christi Award for his service.

Throughout his life, Jim has been drawn to work that centers people—whether through mentoring others in their spiritual journeys, leading within community organizations, or helping people see clearly, both literally and figuratively, through his work as an optician.

After moving to Beaumont, Jim became deeply involved in the community, taking on leadership roles and helping bring people together around a shared commitment to the future of the San Gorgonio Pass.

For Jim, leadership is personal. He believes in showing up, listening, and taking responsibility for the people and communities his decisions affect. That belief continues to guide his work and his commitment to Beaumont.

Jim and his husband, Dan, have been together for over 25 years and are proud to call Beaumont home.

Growth That Strengthens What We Love About Beaumont

When I think about Beaumont ten years from now, I see a city that has grown thoughtfully—with a revitalized downtown, thriving local businesses, and real opportunities for younger residents to build their lives here. I also see Beaumont stepping into its role as a hub for the San Gorgonio Pass.

But sustainable growth only works if it’s done right. I’ve seen how quickly it can outpace the things people rely on every day. My focus is making sure Beaumont grows in a way that strengthens our community, not strains it—so the city we’re building is one people are proud to live in.

Protecting the Character of Our Community

What makes Beaumont special isn’t just where we’re going—it’s who we are. The small-town feel, the friendliness of our neighborhoods, and the natural beauty that surrounds us are part of everyday life here.

I will work to make sure that as Beaumont grows, we protect what makes it feel like home, so growth adds to our identity instead of erasing it.

A City That Works for the Next Generation

or Beaumont to truly thrive, it has to work for the people who are building their future here. That means creating real opportunities for younger residents to stay, work, and put down roots—not feel like they have to leave to find them.

I’m focused on supporting smart development, strong local businesses, and thoughtful planning that keeps Beaumont livable, connected, and full of opportunity for the next generation.
